Pose has a magpie-like eye and it roves everything from signage, to everyday detritus, to the myths and symbols of Americana. “I’m taking from the world around me - whether it be bits of signage or my wife’s old childhood books,” says the restless artist. “It could be a rundown bodega sign I saw on the way to the studio, the way gang graffiti gets painted over by local authorities, watching Dumbo with my daughters in the morning or a deep-seeded memory I’m trying to work through,”
His layers of iconography offer up an immersive journey inviting us to imagine what we will, and the impact is nothing short of thrilling.
Where else have you seen a bear that is so daunting, playful and heroic? Whatever it is that motivates and inspires Pose, we’ll have what he’s having.
