PICK 'N' MIX WITH MELISSA KAYE

Three collections made for mixing and matching

Words by Bridget Barnett

In 2014, Melissa Kaye made the switch from quantitative strategist on Wall Street to spearheading her own fine jewellery sensation. Today, her eponymous label counts Rihanna, Kate Hudson and Lucy Liu as fans, and it’s driven by a recipe that’s refreshingly simple: creating pieces that are edgy and playful, but rooted in timeless design codes which transcend seasons. Kaye’s designs also lend themselves beautifully to mixing and matching, from peppering ears with sculptured cuffs and studs to stacking fingers with delicate diamond-paved bands.

Here, we take a look at three of Melissa Kaye’s standout collections – Ada, Aria and Lola. While each offers a unique aesthetic, these dynamic pieces work just as well with each other as they do on their own.

MEET ADA

The Ada collection is built around Melissa Kaye’s bold and luxurious custom-designed chain silhouette. With a weightless effect that makes it feel like a second skin, the foundational shape can be found across the collection in a range of signature finishes, from classic yellow gold to striking diamond and neon enamel creations.

MEET ARIA

Aria is arguably the most understated of all three collections, but don’t be fooled – she’s just as bound to turn heads. While the palette is more muted, there are plenty of structured, geometric shapes to be found here. This includes everything from Y-shaped pendants to stiletto earrings and sharp, simple hoops that work from day to night.

MEET LOLA

Expect wrap-like forms and unexpected details in the Lola collection. Along with plenty of sparkling white diamonds that capture the light – and eye – from every angle, the collection comes to life through an array of bright shades that can be stacked together for a rainbow effect.
