GETTING DRESSED
The long and the short of it
Words by Joey Wong
The question that rouses group chats the world over: “What are we wearing tonight?”. There’s really no pre-game shot quite like it. If a year of staying in has left you woefully unprepared for dressing to go out, our party frock picks of the season etch out a handy blueprint. Bring on the sunshine.
The Garden Party
Spring florals and predictable quips about Meryl Streep – you know the drill. What’s entirely unpredictable, though, is the design of this Cassia mini dress from Zimmermann, fluttering into flouncy folds that frame a flirty cut-out at the back. We’re leaning towards full-fledged cottagecore for picnic socials at Tamar Park, complete with a raffia basket tote, gingham blanket, and a generous slather of SPF. Maybe a six-pack of canned G&Ts from our neighbourhood eatery, too.
The Club Party
It’s time to unearth legs from the depths of worn-in sweatpants. After all, evenings on the dance floor are meant for short drinks and even shorter hemlines. This cheeky mini from ROTATE by Birger Christensen makes a case for wearing black in summer – finish the look with a swift swipe of smooch-proof lipstick.
The House Party
When it comes to frolicking after dark, the slip dress has a kind of chameleonic prowess; it’s nightwear as outerwear at its very best. Instead of the typical slinky, lace-trimmed option, opt for this Medina beauty from 16Arlington which criss-crosses, ties, drapes and gathers in an oh-so-special way. It’s one of those versatile pieces that can travel from bed-to-bar — or better yet, bed to bar cart. We’re partying in satin and furry slippers tonight.
