GABRIELA HEARST’S HAPPY PLACE
A perfect day on the sustainable designer’s Uruguayan ranch
“My physical happy place — because your happy place should be your inner self — is the ranch I inherited from my father in Uruguay,” New York-based ready-to-wear and accessories designer Gabriela Hearst shares with Lane Crawford. “Every time I travel there, I feel that not only am I close to my dad, but my whole vibe changes and adapts to the place. I get recharged, rested and calmed, and change the frequency from New York.”
As for the perfect day? “I’d be with my children and husband, and would go to bed early, wake up well rested relatively early, and go for a horseback ride with my foreman and talk about the business. Then we’d have an incredible lunch, most likely barbeque: fresh vegetables and fruit, some of which come from the garden. After a big lunch, we’d rest, have a siesta, another ride and then get ready for dinner. A lot of eating is involved.”
But as wonderful as this sounds, it’s not all about the place. As Gabriela adds, “I feel happiest when I’m connected with myself and I feel that I’m centered, and I’m with people I love.”
