Gabriela Hearst IS HERE

Why we’re bracing ourselves for the CFDA Fashion Award winner’s new drop

Words by Bridget Barnett

For lovers of luxury fashion, Gabriela Hearst needs little introduction. The New York-based, Uruguayan-born designer has garnered a loyal following since launching her eponymous label in 2015. With a focus on timelessness, quality and sustainability, her work was most recently recognised after she was awarded American Womenswear Designer of the Year at the CFDA Fashion Awards 2020.

And now, Gabriela Hearst’s latest collection lands at Lane Crawford. To mark the highly anticipated occasion, we’re rounding up just three reasons we’re teeming with excitement.

There’s a HKSAR exclusive launch of new bags

Fans of Hearst’s highly covetable handbags are in luck! This year we will see an HKSAR exclusive launch of new styles at Lane Crawford, including the Wabi, Sabi, and Joan. Other new styles including the Baez is on track to becoming one of Hearst’s most in-demand handbags. Named after singer and activist Joan Baez, it’s anticipated to be a new cult classic that follows in the footsteps of the iconic Demi and Nina bags.

The bags will be available in store and online from November 27, 2020 to December 31, 2020

Also stirring up excitement on the accessories front this season is The Nostalgia, a musical jewellery box that plays Beautiful Dreamer by Stephen Foster, as well as Off To The Races, a bag which features delicate, hand-painted enamel horse and jockey figures in action.

There’s an Asia-exclusive Gabriela Hearst x Lane Crawford 170th Collection

In celebration of Lane Crawford’s 170th anniversary, Hearst is delivering on an extra special Retrofit Capsule. The collection takes 18 loved styles from the archives and reinterprets them in new ways using upcycled materials, including cashmere and leather, before adding a touch of tie-dye and hand embroidery. The entire process has been documented, providing fans with insight into the transformation.

“For us, making the Retrofit collection was a dream. It’s a project that we’ve spent a few years thinking about, and to be able to launch it with Lane Crawford exclusively in Asia provides an amazing platform. We’re very excited to achieve the most sustainable action possible: to repurpose something existing and create something new and beautiful,” Hearst tells us.

This collection will soon be available online and in stores at Lane Crawford.

There’s a ready-to-wear collection that dreams are made of

Crafted with purpose and a truly enviable design, Hearst’s Autumn Winter 2020 collection is further proof of how she has become one of the top designers of the moment. In it, you’ll find reconstructed cashmere outerwear with considered colour blocking, recycled double-face cashmere with animal print, and hand-painted detail inspired by mandala geometric patterns. Staying true to Hearst’s values, the collection is also designed in a way that works with waste without compromising the quality.
