Not all trails are created equal, which is what makes trekking adventurous. Whether you’re looking for an adventure, cultural immersion to the great outdoors, or simply a chance to explore some of the most awe-inspiring landscapes, each hike offers a unique experience.

To ensure you’re fully prepared for your next adventure, read on for our curated list of essentials to bring along on 4 breathtaking hikes to have on your radar.

Lion Rock (Hong Kong)

This one serves as a symbolism to Hong Kong – the "Lion Rock Spirit” (the can-do attitude of Hong Kongers, a collective determination to better their lives against seemingly insurmountable odds). The hike starts off easy, but the final ascent is the toughest. But you know what they say, the toughest climbs lead to the most beautiful views and Lion Rock is no less. Get a bird’s eye view of Kowloon and all its glory.

Best time to go: The best time to do this hike is in the winter – December to March. The weather is the most moderate and rainfall is infrequent.

Essentials to bring:

The Wave (Coyotte Buttes North)

This Wave is located within the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness Area. The wilderness area is about 30 minutes outside Kanab, Utah. The spectacular standstone landscape formation is famous for its orange and red stripes. During this hike, you will begin in Utah and end up in Arizona. However, note that there is a very competitive lottery system that you must enter, and win, in order to legally hike The Wave. 20 people total, per day, are allowed in.

Best time to go: October through early November is the perfect time to visit since the weather is cooler with less of a chance of rain.

Essentials to bring:

Tour Du Mont Blanc

There is no doubt that hiking Mont Blanc is one of the most fascinating place to hike in Europe and not to mention it’s also one of the oldest multi-day treks in the world. The actual trail circumnavigates Mont Blanc, and in the process, crosses through France, Italy and Switzerland. Throughout the hike, you'll see immense snowy peaks to huge glaciers, wild rivers and green valleys. One highlight you wouldn’t want to miss is hiking up to the pristine Lac Blanc on the final leg of the hike. The Mont Blanc massif is a fitting view to end the hike and even the most amateur photographers can take a cracking photo. If you’re adventurous and brave enough, you can also pop in for a quick swim in its icy waters.

Best time to go: Mid-summer is the most popular time for the Tour du Mont Blanc, with ideal hiking conditions, pleasant temperatures, and well-maintained trails.

Essentials to bring:

Machu Picchu Inca Trail (Peru)

Machu Picchu is one of the world’s most dreamed-about destinations. Located on top of a mountain in the middle of a tropical forest, it is considered the tourist attraction par excellence in Peru. Alongside this adventure through time, a trip to Machu Picchu offers an opportunity to experience Peruvian culture and gastronomy. Be sure to see and learn about some of the site’s more fascinating highlights, including the Temple of the Sun, Temple of the Three Windows, Temple of the Condor, the Sun Gate and the Intihuatana rock.

Best time to go: Late March to May and from September to mid-December. These months fall before and after the rainy season, providing excellent weather conditions and fewer crowds.
