3 INTERIOR TRENDS FOR 2021
Making space for change
Words by Bridget Barnett
With our homes feeling more lived-in and familiar than ever, an interior update is one way to light a fire of creativity-charged embers under your feet for 2021. Whether it be here-and-there tweaks or a head-to-toe revamp, here are three design trends worth tuning into.
NATURE CALLING
Organic or natural forms and fabrics reigned supreme in 2020, a trend that’s expected to continue well into 2021. This includes an emphasis on materials; rattan and seagrass fabrics, oak and teak woods, crystal and marble stones, as well as shapes – fluid, curved, imperfect. We’re feeling particularly inspired by the sculptural lines of abstract vases, paired with or without fresh foliage.
SIGNS OF THE TIMES
Technology use and consumption has reached an all-time high, and as a result, state-of-the-art devices are outperforming themselves at lightning speed. From TVs with rotating screens and cinema-quality viewing on tablets to AirDressers that rid clothes almost entirely of coronavirus particles, innovation has also become more accessible. Somewhere, Tony Stark is beaming.
BRIGHT(ER) IDEAS
From cherry red to electric blue, the transformative power of vibrant, joyful hues come to the fore in 2021. Many of these colours display themselves through patterns – geometrics, florals and heart-shaped motifs, to name a few. When it comes to styling, expect a technicolour mashup of rainbow tumblers, striped tablecloths and plates peppered with prints.
